Great News for Westwind’s Stewardship Circle

Many wonderful Westwind supporters and all members of the WSG board have made generous individual contributions to the acquisition of the property, totaling more than $1,900,000 to date. With our recent grant awards we have now raised $ 3,600,000.

The Westwind Stewardship Group (WSG) is delighted to announce that in March the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) granted $1,500,000 toward acquisition and conservation of the 508-acre Westwind site within the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area. In early May the Spirit Mountain Community Foundation also awarded WSG a $200,000 challenge grant. We are currently awaiting word on two other grant applications and turn with renewed energy to raising the remaining funds needed to prepare for ownership and management of the incomparable Westwind site.

WSG’s goals require raising nearly $ 4,500,000 by September, 2006. This will cover the $ 4,000,000 costs of the acquisition project (which includes purchase, and creation of Stewardship and Reserve funds). The additional $500,000 covers the WSG’s costs to cover closing and its first season of management.
